December 7, 2009Mattress prices range from $299 up to $6,000 for a queen set. Although you do not have to spend $6,000, adults should be somewhere in the middle of the road ($799 to $1299).
The $299 mattresses are designed for price points only, meaning these are only available for those individuals who are simply looking for the least expensive mattress that will get them off the ground. They won’t be as comfortable and they wont provide as much support but they are better than sleeping on the floor.
As you go up in the price scale, you get more support, more comfort, and better comfort layers. In a 20 year period, these more expensive mattresses will last a lot longer and feel more comfortable for a longer period of time.
It’s important for you to choose the right mattress by laying on it. Making sure the mattress feels comfortable, provides you the needed support, and accomodates your and your spouses’ weight and height.
In a queen size set, expect to spend about $799 and up for a good quality mattress. Most major mattress brands like Sealy, Spring Air, Simmons, Serta, Englander, etc. will have a good quality mattress in this price point. They’ll also have them in different feels like: firm, cushion firm, plush, pillow top, or euro top which add more comfort layers to the mattress.
Remember that going up in price will get you a mattress with materials that are better in quality, last much longer and make the mattress much more comfortable for a longer period of time.
You need to look at mattress shopping as an investment. You want to avoid having to buy another mattress in the next 5-10 years. You certainly don’t want to develop back/neck pain. Instead, you want to ensure that you are getting a restful sleep each and every night, waking up fully rested and energized.
